A Sky Full of Sorrows: Inside the Tragic Crash of Air India Flight:

June 12 turned into a tragic chapter in aviation history when an Air India flight from Ahemdabad to London crashed in moments after taking off. This horrific incident took place at the west side of Ahemdabad where the plane collided into a building that served as a  doctor's hostel at the Byramjee Jeejeebhoy Medical College and Civil Hospital. This accident had caused the death of 241 on board passengers including the crew members . Only one member from the flight survived. Additionally around 8 local citizens as well as nearly 9 resident doctors of the hostel lost their lives. whereas more than 30 individuals have been severely injured and are under observation at nearby hospitals .

The Final moments : Mayday call before the disaster.

The AIR India 171 flight bound to London lost it's signal within a minute of take off according to flight tracking website FlightRadar24. India's aviation regulator said "The plane gave a mayday call to air traffic control , and when air traffic control responded, there was no response ." It clearly suggests that the
Plane actually crashed moments before it could take off properly. The exact reason of the accident is still not known , however the investigation is going on . The officers have recovered the black box from the flight which is being analysed to get information of  the final moments of the aircraft.

What is May day call ? And What is Blackbox ?

The term mayday call and Blackbox has become a point of discussion among people since the fatal aircraft crash news has come . So let's know what they actually are ? Basically may day call used in aviation is a distress signal to alert air traffic control that a flight is experiencing a severe issue and to inform them that it is a emergency that need to be assisted immediately. It is basically a phonetic equivalent of French phrase m’aider which means  (“help me”).
The modern aircrafts has a Digital Flight Data Recorder (FDR) and Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) which is known as black box . However the black boxes are coloured in orange colour for higher visibility and they play a key role in identifying the root cause of the aircraft crashes .It stores critical data like altitude, airspeed, system performance, and cockpit conversations, which provides insights into  what went wrong during the flight.

A Question of Accountability – Is Citizen Safety a Joke?

Yes the gut-wrenching incidents which had happened in last few months in the country had made people question about the safety of citizens under the sky of India . This disaster had once again sparked a major query echoing in the country that How many more lives will it take before citizen safety will be treated as a priority ?
Where our future is going ? A country where holiday turns into horror , celebration turns into stampede, casually sitting into a hostel where you've reached with utmost hardwork and patience and then die unexpectedly in a blink of an eye , people boards a flight of dreams that turns into death
Isn't these all incidents demands an urgent reform of the deeply flawed system that our country has?

Aviation companies cannot shrug off responsibility :

Airlines must be held accountable for this tragic loss . Specially if they are carrying trust of  thousands of people along with the national legacy  . They should not hide behind by just giving consoling statements and money compensation. Their role is much bigger than that , they should make sure that each aircraft is airworthy, the staffs are well trained and that every journey should begin and end safely because every lives matter. Poor maintenance standards ,  ignoring proper aircraft checks and basic safety norms ,is not just carelessness - it is a criminal negligence which usually gets paid through human lives.

The deteoriating media standards in the country:

The irresponsible behaviour of the system does not only ends here , the things went extreme when the media which is often regarded as the fourth pillar of support and truth were seen exploiting the tragedy for sensational coverage . The rescue operation was still underway, and the families were in deep shock trying to process the whole horrific incident , in which the irresponsible media behaviour added to the pain .
The leak of the full passenger and crew list along with the passport details , withing hours of the crash was a major breach of privacy and ethics . Not only this but in the race of TRPs , the media had forgotten the basic humanity and sensitivity . Some reporters were seen pushing the mic into the grieving family members of the victims, asking them disrespectful questions like how are they feeling after losing their loved ones , even asking insensitive questions from the survivor at the crash site itself . This is not journalism, this is just a commercial race of earning money .

Lessons Written in Ashes:
Saying Life is unpredictable and moving on should not be the end . The people who lost their life in this nightmarish , their sacrifice should not go in vain . On the contrary this should Mark the turning point , the beginning of the change , the changes in aviation safety , government accountability and media ethics . The families who lost their loved ones do not only deserves - some compensation amount , some consoling messages , prayers and thoughts . They deserve justice , reform and a future where air travel doesn't costs in gambling of life.

We owe them much more than an apology, we owe them a change .
